About Me

Copy of Joanna_home_prev-8098-min_edited

I’m Joanna Bauer-Savage — an integrative medical doctor, facilitator, coach, and writer based in Berlin.

My work sits at the intersection of medicine, psychology, and transformational practice, and is shaped as much by lived experience as by professional training.

I trained and worked internationally as a physician, including in New Zealand, Ireland, and Germany and as a consultant for the World Health Organisation in Geneva. Those years gave me a strong integrative, systems-based lens on health — one that looks beyond symptoms to meaning, context, trauma, and personal agency.

I’m deeply interested in how bodies speak, how stories shape healing, and how people make sense of what’s happening to them.

Alongside clinical medicine, I’ve spent many years navigating different healthcare systems — both professionally and personally.

This has given me an intimate understanding of what it can feel like to be a patient: the vulnerability, the power imbalances, the moments of rupture, and the quiet resilience required to keep advocating for oneself.

In recent years, I’ve expanded into professional coaching and facilitation. I trained with Animas in an ICF-accredited pathway toward PCC certification with the International Coaching Federation. My work draws on attachment theory, archetypal psychology, trauma-informed practice, and embodied approaches to change — always with an emphasis on safety, consent, and psychological literacy.

I’m also the founder of Wild Woman Reborn — a platform and body of work offering workshops, courses, and longer transformational journeys, both in Berlin and online. These spaces explore themes such as identity, purpose, power, desire, boundaries, healing after rupture, and the integration of feminine and masculine inner forces. They are experiential, grounded, and carefully held — inviting depth without bypassing, and transformation without force.

Alongside this, I’m writing a book (working title Rebel Patient), reflecting on medical trauma, the limits of modern healthcare, and the reclamation of agency in illness and healing. It’s informed by both my professional life and my own personal journey — and by a deep belief that patients deserve dignity, agency and choice.

At the heart of my work is translation:
between body and psyche, medicine and meaning, rupture and renewal.

I support people in making sense of complex experiences — and in moving forward with clarity, dignity, and choice.

A Fusion of Science, Soul & Global Experience

With a unique blend of clinical expertise and lived experience, I support individuals seeking transformation in health and living a life with purpose. I’ve practiced medicine in Ireland, New Zealand, and Germany, and led an integrative medical practice in New Zealand, specializing in women’s health, mental well-being, gut health, and autoimmune conditions. I’ve worked with global organisations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Focus GmbH, which has given me insight into international healthcare systems, public health policy, and the socio-economic aspects of wellness.

As a mother of three teenage daughters and for twenty years the spouse of a diplomat, I’ve lived in eight countries over two decades. These life chapters have deepened my empathy, adaptability, and commitment to creating inclusive, culturally aware spaces for transformational change and healing.

Having worked with individuals from all walks of life, I bring compassion, presence, and clarity to every coaching session.

My mission is to empower you to reconnect with your authentic self, navigate challenges with confidence, identify and live a life in alignment with your higher purpose and thrive - emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

My Personal Healing Journey

My journey with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), overcoming autoimmune disease and healing from PTSD from sexual abuse as a child and medically induced trauma, has taught me the power of personal resilience and the importance of addressing the root cause—not just the symptoms. Living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare genetic connective tissue disorder, has touched every part of my life—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. While conventional care from skilled doctors, surgeons, physiotherapists, osteopaths, and bodyworkers played a crucial role, it was through spirituality, inner work, and energetic healing that I shifted from simply surviving to truly thriving.

I am forever grateful for the life-saving power of Western medicine—without it, I would not be here today. My medical knowledge has been vital in navigating the complexity of Ehlers Danlos Syndrom  - a condition often misunderstood and underserved by conventional medicine. My personal journey through autoimmune disease revealed the limitations of conventional medicine and opened the door to holistic and complementary therapies. A near-death experience and subsequent spiritual awakening further set me on the path of integrative medicine and deep transformational healing.I combine my clinical background with a soul-led, trauma-informed approach to support others on their path to wholeness.

My Vision

Integrative medicine as the future of medicine

My vision is to help pioneer and expand the field of integrative medicine as a leading model for the future of healthcare toward approaches that are more integrative, relational, and responsive to the full complexity of being human.

I believe integrative medicine has an important role to play in the future of healthcare and holistic wellbeing — not as an alternative to conventional medicine, but as a complementary model that broadens how we understand healing, health, and agency.

What Is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine is a whole-person approach to healthcare that combines conventional treatments with evidence-based complementary therapies. It looks beyond symptoms to underlying causes and supports health across physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.

Key principles of integrative medicine include:

  • Personalised care tailored to a persons unique lifestyle, values, and goals

  • Emphasis on prevention and long-term wellbeing, alongside treatment

  • Empowerment through active participation, responsibility and agency in the healing process

  • Recognition that true health means more than the absence of disease—it’s about vitality, balance and meaning.

A Call for Change in Healthcare

The current global healthcare systems often do not support the true practice of integrative medicine. Stigma persists around energy healing, spirituality, and conscious sexuality, while trauma and emotional well-being are frequently overlooked. There is a growing need for new paradigms—ones that honour the complexity of human experience and integrate diverse modalities to create truly healing environments.

Working across different healthcare systems, I’ve seen both the extraordinary strengths of modern medicine and its limitations.

Time pressure, fragmentation, and a narrow focus on pathology can leave important aspects of suffering unaddressed — particularly those related to trauma, sexuality, identity with illness, loss of agency, and meaning. These dimensions are not peripheral to health; they often sit at its centre.

There is a growing need for new paradigms—ones that honour the complexity of human experience and integrate diverse modalities to create truly healing environments.

A Focus on Trauma-Informed Healthcare

One of my central missions is to raise awareness about trauma in medicine and advocate for more compassionate, trauma-informed care. By bringing attention to the emotional, energetic, and spiritual dimensions of healing, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive and empowering model of healthcare.

Let's Connect

If you're seeking a guide on your healing journey—or feel called to collaborate, contribute, or support this evolving vision—I would be honoured to connect with you. Please email me on joanna@wildwomanreborn.com.

Together, let’s co-create a new way of being—one that celebrates wholeness, honours diversity, and supports true healing from the inside out.
